The San Diego Miramar Lions Club joined the volunteer event and efforts led by the San Diego Forever Lions Club who sponsored our Nation’s heroes at a Thanksgiving Day lunch feast of ham, turkey, potatoes, yams, gravy, veggies, bread, and rolls accompanied by a full table of desserts – that needed their own table. On the “sidelines” were a few international dishes from across the sea to add a small touch of global flavor to the special event recognizing these amazing men and women in uniform who defend our liberties and provide our safety both at home and abroad. These Marines and Sailors were provided van transportation from Camp Pendleton, allowing all of us to share a bountiful array of stories and backgrounds, a dab of sports, and their future aspirations. It was heartwarming to know that the Lions were able to fill a bit of time “away from home” for each of them and ensure they connected with their extended family of Prideful Lions from San Diego who “cared.” One of the SD Forever Lions decided that early Holiday gifts would be welcomed, and she immediately and personally presented holiday “$$$$” gift cards to each active duty member present – SURPRISE! Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled into one super event. Fabulous!!!
Most of our military guests shared with Miramar Lions that they will be leaving on deployment in the next two months and will be away from home for quite a while. We wish them safe voyage, fair winds and following seas – always. Happy Thanksgiving to all –
