On April 8th, the Lions Optometric Vision Clinic received 522 pairs of new and used eye glasses for repurposing back into the community.  This donation was made possible by the joint efforts of the San Diego Miramar Lions Club and the San Diego Rancho Bernardo Lions Club along with donations from the Miramar/Mira Mesa community at large.  Our contact at the Lions Vision Clinic, Enrique, Operations Manager, had indicated earlier that their supply was getting low, so the Lions got busy collecting throughout San Diego County.  In just two short months, the Lions from these two PRIDES were able to gather 309 pairs of brand new reading glasses in various strength, 171 pairs of gently used glasses, and 42 pairs of sunglasses for a total of 522 pairs of eyewear.  Wow!  Good job Lions.  Additionally, 189 eyeglass cases were also included in the donation to the clinic.

Interesting Eyewear Facts:  Did you know that every pair of glasses, new, gently used, or damaged, can be used for redistribution, regardless of what shape they are in. Spare parts and screws are removed from old and broken glasses and frames to save the vision clinic money from having to purchase spare parts to repair donated eyewear. Let our Lion PRIDE know if you need an “eyewear” box/bag pickup in the community. We can come to you and pick up bulk/volume donations.

Good job everyone – Let’s continue to help those in need.    So, remember to continuing saving and donating eyewear for those in need.  Let’s ROAR!
