Lion Arlene Garingo, M.D., M.P.H., Attending Neonatologist, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Clinician Educator), Keck School of Medicine of USC, and San Diego Miramar Lions Club Secretary, volunteered for a medical mission in the Country of Cyprus. She specializes in the care of very low birth weight (VLBW), especially Feeding and Nutrition in the VLBW Neonate, Newborn Resuscitation, and Delivery Room Newborn Resuscitation in Low-Resource Settings Education/Teaching. As a part of a team of doctors volunteering to fly to Cyprus, Lion Arlene paid for her flight, meals, etc., out of pocket. While there, Dr. Garingo taught other medical staff in the country how to resuscitate newborns if they aren’t breathing after being born. This valuable and educational training will allow other medical staff located in the country to save the life of newborn infants in the future, without the assistance of US doctors and nurses, extending their own country’s training abilities. The volunteer medical team remained in the country, boots-on-ground, for a period of one week.  Well done Lion Arlene extending the life of others around the world!
