On September 10, 2020, the San Diego Miramar Lions Club and the La Jolla Presidents Lions Club came together to present a “breakfast break” at the San Diego Police Department Northern Division. We were happily greeted with warm smiles, multiple virtual handshakes, and friendly nods. Meeting with 15-20 of America’s finest in “Blue,” these two Lion “PRIDES” were able to serve coffee, donuts, bagels, and cream cheese to say thank you for their continued efforts during the challenges of COVID-19 these past seven months, the dedication during the recent protest and demonstration that have taken place throughout our communities, and the strength to continue serving and protecting our local citizens every day keeping us safe.

There are so many other things that the police members do that we don’t even know about or give them credit for like helping to find a family pet, aiding during a medical incident, donating money to a community cause, buying gifts for those kids in need at Christmas, or just volunteering at the senior center. I’ve seen our men and women in blue buy a meal for a homeless person or picking up a stay at a motel for a distressed family. And there’s more…with all the negative press lately, it is important to also remember the good they continue to contribute to our community.

We also learned that the San Diego Police Department Northern Division also offers Vacation House Checks which entail Police volunteers conducting a security check on your home while you are on vacation. Finally, if you know someone who is elderly or physically challenged and also alone, Police volunteers can stop by and check on these people regularly. Ask for “You Are Not Alone” YANA Checks. To request either of these services, contact the Northern Division. Great to know that they are looking out for our property and our senior citizens.

The Northern Division serves a population of 225,234 people encompassing 41.3 square miles. They may be contacted at the following:

4275 Eastgate Mall, San Diego, CA 92037
Phone: 858-5552-1700

A continued big thank you to all of our San Diego Police men and women in blue each and every day!
