Our local SDPD answer an abundance of calls 24/7, and each situation is different.  Some 911 calls they respond to involve children who are suffering for a multitude of reasons – fire, domestic violence, homelessness, accidents, and more.  University studies suggests that touching stuffed animals/comfort objects can help to relieve fear and anxiety, while helping with increasing social connections with people during periods of stress and anxiety. The touching and holding of stuffed animals can help increase one’s sense of security when transitioning through life stages.
The PRIDE of the SDMLC donated a bag full of stuffed animals that can be carried in the patrol cars, and the police who answer the calls to these stressful situations can distribute them as they find children at risk and in need of comfort.
