On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the SDMLC Pride counted, sorted, and boxed over 675+ pairs of eye wear that included sunglasses, vision glasses, eye wear cases, and hearing aids delivering them to the Lions Optometric Center in downtown San Diego. The mission of the Lions Optometric Center is “…changing how people see the world every day…”. Contributions for this project were from the Rancho Bernardo Lions Club, local community, neighbors, family, and standing box collection locations in and around Miramar/Mira Mesa as organized by the San Diego Miramar Lions Club.
Delivery to the Vision Center was made by Lion Debbie and Friend of the SDMLC Jack on February 10th. They were warmly greeted by the Director, Enrique, who helped them unload the very full vehicle containing several boxes and bags of eyewear/cases. Enrique expressed that they were happy to receive this large donation for their population in need, and that all eye wear parts donated are used. The eye center has to pay a great deal for the “tiny screws” used in the maintenance and refurbishment of the frames so even broken frames, parts, etc. are always welcomed, and recipients love the fact that their glasses come with a “free” case.
The San Diego Miramar Lions Club collects eyewear all year long. If you have eyewear sitting in your closets, drawers, or trunk of your car, gather them up and donate them to the SDMLC Pride. We will get them to our partner agency to help those in need around the County and beyond. Thank you for your generous donations to this project, and do keep us in mind when you find an extra pair of eyeglasses that are ready to be replaced.
