“Ask and you shall receive.” As communities’ continue to shelter-in-place at the month three (3) mark, there are always people on the sidelines ready to offer their assistance and help when needed. Ron Marquez, in our local neighborhood, is one of those generous people who can be counted on when the “need” is heard. Ron, a friend from the Maddox Dog Park (Mira Mesa), recently came to the aid of the San Diego Miramar Lions Club as the Lions sought a solution for their newly acquired club banner, which they received upon being officially welcomed into the Lions Club International pride on January 14, 2020. The San Diego Miramar Lions Club is a non-profit local club that is supported by an all-volunteer team of Lions, with a mission to support and aid those in need. Five major goals of the Lions is helping with HUNGER, ENVIRONMENT, VISION, CHILDREN WITH CANCER, and DIABETES.
Hearing of our need, Ron immediately volunteered to create, build, and donate a custom banner stand for our club. Within two weeks, the San Diego Miramar Lions Club had a beautiful, custom made stand created by our own community citizen. Each time the San Diego Miramar Lions Club proudly displays our club banner at events, projects, and conferences, we will all think of our “Friend of the Lions,” Ron Marquez.
Ron has been a part of our family of “Friends of the Lions” since we first started our Charter “pride” here in Mira Mesa in October of 2019. He was one of the first to sign-up and volunteer to help with a self-help, clean-up Maddox Park environment project so that the community could continue to bring their furry friends to a clean, safe, and beautiful dog park.
Ron lives in Mira Mesa, and is a Software Test Engineer for the Department of the Navy. He enjoys many different hobbies that include wood working (building a full, custom garage table and bench set from February-March of 2020), honing his gardening skills, global photography, and “getting lost in YOUTUBE.” Ron continually strives to improve his overall knowledge base and seeks out techniques for home improvement projects, overall self-improvement, and “upping” his career programming skill set. When not at the home front, Ron likes to work out with weights, and get the cardio pumping.
