After the Memorial Day ceremonies and remembrances, the Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery needed volunteers to attend to picking up and removing all the flags that were placed graveside during the weekend. On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the San Diego Miramar Lions Club volunteered to clean-up and remove the 120,000 flags that were placed at the site of each fallen hero. The removal and clean-up project started at 10:00am and the cemetery project was completed at approximately 12:00pm.
Volunteer efforts to remove the flags and store them away for the next event saves the cemetery, and flag organizations who support our veterans, additional costs to replace them each time as well as saving the environment by reducing the chemical and environmental impact on mother earth. Thank you Lion PRIDE for your post Memorial Day efforts as we begin the month of June. It is greatly appreciated.
