Donating new and gently used eyeglasses to organizations that are able to repurpose glasses for those in need can help give the gift of vision back to those who may be challenged without the proper eye wear. During the month of May, the San Diego Miramar and Rancho Bernardo Lions Clubs, joined with the efforts of the community gathering over 1000+ pairs of glasses, sunglasses, and children glasses to provide to the local Lions Optometric Vision Clinic for refurbishment, repair, and re-distribution back to those individuals who cannot afford new glasses on their own.
Every pair of donated glasses, frames, or eye glass cases, whether are new, gently used, or even broken,are reviewed and repurposed utilizing each possible piece down to the smallest, tiniest screw. In speaking with Enrique, the center’s Operation Manager, we learned that the purchasing of glass wear screws are very expensive for the Vision Clinic to purchase new. Removing screws from old frames is a cost-saving method for them, then allowing their budget to be directed toward other needed items.
