EVENTS NEXT 3 MONTHS: As we enter the last part of the year, I hope we can meet a few of the established goals of Lions Club International. They are as follows:

  • Vision
  • Youth
  • Disaster Relief
  • Humanitarian
  • Diabetes
  • Hunger
  • Environment
  • Childhood Cancer

PROJECTS: I am proposing that the next few months we pick relatively easy projects to accomplish as we build our relationship and style of projects together. Here are my suggestions:

October: ENVIRONMENT – “Bow-Wow” Park Clean Up. Saturday, October 12, 2019. 7:00am-9:00am. Raking and cleaning up the leaves, twigs, fur, etc. at the Maddox Park Dog Park area. I can bring plastic gloves, garbage bags, and donuts. You just need to bring a rake/broom, and if you have 1 gallon plastic jugs, bring one that is filled with tap water and a plastic lid.

November: HUNGER – 2 hours of volunteer work at the San Diego Food Bank located just off Miramar Road. Normal schedule is 6:00-8:00pm as designated by the Food Bank. You can just bring yourself in your Lion t-shirt. We will need to obligate to this event fairly quickly as it is filling up fast!!!!

December: YOUTH – Holiday cheer gifts, unwrapped, for children of wounded warriors. Each Lion would be responsible for purchasing a small gift for a child. Also attend the Holiday party!!!

January: CHILDHOOD CANCER – I am thinking about a repeat 5K performance at Lake Miramar. We obtain sponsorship for $25.00 (each Lion), and use the money to donate gifts/requested items to the children with cancer at Rady Children’s Hospital. Other than finding someone to sponsor you, there are no costs to participate. The walk itself should not take longer than 45mins to 1 hour from start to finish. 100% of money raised supports the childhood cancer goals. And yes, last year, we had dogs on the walk with us.

SAN DIEGO MIRAMAR LIONS CLUB WEBSITE: The website has been created! We have two webmasters who have generously offered their IT expertise and support, Vince and Sabina.

VOLUNTEERISM: Lions Club International is an all volunteer club, and all proceeds go back to those in need. Come and participate when you can, but there is absolutely no requirement to attend everything. It is simply up to you, your family, and your schedule. In summation, I hope I’ve provided you with a quick overview of the Lions, and look forward to working with you helping those in need around the globe. Let me know if you are interested in the upcoming Sunday “admin” meeting, and maybe we can carpool. Lion Vince and Lion Debbie, if you can make it, I would very much appreciate your attendance….short notice I know.

CLUB MEETINGS: Because of everyone’s busy schedule, we normally only meet once a month and complete most of our discussions via text and or email. I’ll need a volunteer to collect everyone’s information (email, phone, address, etc.), and put together a list for everyone to have as a “telephone tree” or cell contact. Volunteer? Weekend meetings or during the week evening meetings?

PROJECTS: If anyone hears of a project that they think is worthy, please let us know. We can brainstorm and see if we can get enough Lion power and presence to support the effort(s). If it’s one of the Lions stated goals, even better!!!!

Okay, apologies for this long winded post, and I’m sure you have lots of questions. Because of club start up, the first few emails and posts will be LONG!!!! Also, let’s start thinking about club t-shirts so we can wear them during our upcoming projects. I have a couple of samples to share if anyone is interested….Lion colors are Navy Blue and Gold, but we can do anything b/c we are NEW!!!! We can get them printed up in just a couple of days.
