Community helping community.  Lions helping those in need.  Our motto “We Serve.”  The story we’d like to share this month is about a neighborhood gal named August.  August is a kind and beautiful woman who was born with a developmental disability and was raised by a single mom.  They did everything together and lived a fulfilling life in their San Diego home.  Unfortunately for August, her mom was diagnosed with cancer and passed away this year leaving her precious daughter to find her way.  Since her mother’s passing, August has had to make many adjustments in her life including moving from the home she shared with her mother to a “supportive care home.”

The transition in her life has been challenging, but a few family members and church friends are helping August with the changes as she must adapt to new schedules, new friends, and a new home.  We learned that her community friend, Lori, has been instrumental in helping August complete needed errands around town by driving her as needed.  When the SDMLC heard about the changes occurring in August’s life without her mom by her side, and her friend Lori driving her around town to take care of daily tasks, the SDMLC Lions reached out and offered our support to August, and friend Lori.   The “SDMLC PRIDE” chipped in and provided a little extra “$$$” sparkle for August to “lift” the upcoming holidays that are right around the corner.  August’s caregivers will help her shop to assist with making “the best choices,” and the festive time of year extra special.  The PRIDE wanted to thank her friend Lori, pictured here, who graciously drives her whenever needed, so “Santa” sent an early gas/fuel card – express – from the North Pole.

Happy “early” holidays August and Lori – We are ROARING with you both!
