What has become an annual December event for the San Diego Miramar Lions Club, the “SDMLC” Pride joined together with the community, our military, and the Wreaths Across America organization to lay wreaths for our fallen military at the Miramar National Cemetery off Miramar Road in San Diego, CA. Even with the occurrence of COVID-19 this year, we gathered on a cool, crisp Thursday morning. The pandemic did not deter the Pride. Face masks/face shields, and gloves were worn to remain safe as we worked together in a coordinated effort. Rain was also predicted at 20-30%, but the weather forecast did not deter those volunteers helping with this important project of remembering those who have gone before us to keep our Nation safe.
Upon our arrival at the cemetery, we were directed to our volunteer area for the morning, Area 3. Box after box of holiday wreaths were unloaded from the trucks by our military service men and women from all branches. We began moving through the rows of our fallen members to reverently place a wreath at each gravesite pausing for a moment to say their name and offer our prayers of thanks for their sacrifice.
It was a memorable and emotional project to work on. If you are reading this article, I hope you will consider volunteering next year for our fallen military at any national cemetery in the Country. Wishing all of you joy, good health, safety, and happiness in 2021. We give thanks to those that keep us safe
