On a beautiful morning in late October, the San Diego Miramar Lions Club (SDMLC) was contacted by “Ginger, Friend of the Pride,” with new info that a local optometry shop was closing. Ginger, a loyal friend of the SDMLC, is a generous past and current contributor to our Lions VISION goals, and is constantly keeping an eye out for those who are willing to donate their eyeglasses to benefit others in our community and abroad. Ginger met with the owner of the local eyewear shop, and coordinated the initial pick-up and placement with the SDMLC Pride. She arrived at our SDMLC Club house with boxes, bags, cases, and more of glasses, sunglasses, cases, readers, and even glasses for kids. The bags, boxes, and cartons were filled to the brim with eyewear engulfing the storage area.

Lions Ryan, Amy, and cubs Luke and Mackenzie picked up the project for the SDMLC Pride, and began the “heavy lifting” of the VISION project. Over the period of the next two days, they carried, counted, sorted, and delivered over 1200 collective pairs of eyewear, 100+ eyeglass cases, lens cloths, side guards, and other misc items that were then transported down to the Lions Optometric Vision Clinic in downtown San Diego.

Lion Ryan and Lion Amy are always actively educating their children about giving, sharing, and caring about others, and this project was no different. Both the kids helped their parents with not only the count, but with “showcasing” some of the fine eyeglasses that were donated to share the gift of vision around the world. Helping each other, while teaching the next generation, sets an example for those that will build our world in coming years. Thank you cubs Luke and Mackenzie for “ROARING” with us!
